Il vino è un bene prezioso, nato dalla terra e fortemente legato all'area in cui è cresciuto. Quindi è il paesaggio delle dolci colline che circondano la cantina, con i suoi vigneti terrazzati, a modellare il nuovo, grande edificio, curvando e piegando la facciata principale come l'onda delle terrazze. Dalle geometrie originali e pure, vengono creati volumi dinamici, rivestiti in pannelli di terra battuta e stabilizzata, la stessa terra che ha dato alla luce e nutrito l'uva. I nuovi volumi si ergono come enormi geodi minerali che si spezzano e si spaccano per lasciare entrare aria fresca e luce. Fessure di vetri colorati e un cuore prezioso, ricoperti da migliaia di piccoli specchi color rubino dello stesso colore del vino Amarone, lasciano intendere che nella penombra all’interno sta accadendo qualcosa di magico. I nuovi magazzini di frutta sono al piano terra, facilmente accessibili attraverso un'ampia rampa. Sono divisi in due grandi spazi che possono essere utilizzati indipendentemente per lo stoccaggio o anche per eventi speciali. Un sistema distinto di feritoie, nella parte inferiore delle pareti di terra battuta, insieme ad alcuni camini di ventilazione, permettono di regolare la ventilazione secondo le necessità. Il magazzino principale occupa il resto del piano terra e parte del seminterrato, dove può essere facilmente raggiunto dal cortile. Alzandosi verso il sole, l'edificio si ritrae e si apre alla luce. Prima di tutto attraverso due patii, circondati dagli uffici operativi, dalle aule e dai laboratori; poi attraverso un'ampia terrazza, di fronte al wine-bar, alla sala degustazione e alle sale polifunzionali. La terrazza è un luogo nuovo per eventi o semplicemente per rilassarsi, bere e ammirare il paesaggio. È un luogo in cui l'edificio rende evidente la sua vocazione ecologica, con il grande impianto fotovoltaico e i tetti verdi. Accanto al wine-bar, si trovano una biblioteca multimediale e uno spazio espositivo temporaneo. L'attuale sala espositiva permanente, dedicata all'essiccazione delle uve, è stata lasciata nella soffitta del corpo di fabbrica esistente, nella sua attuale posizione. Nello stesso edificio, rappresentante della storia della cantina Valpolicella, sono l'atrio per clienti e lavoratori e gli uffici di gestione. Tra questo edificio e i nuovi volumi di terra, si trovano la nuova enoteca e lo showroom: uno spazio aperto a tutta altezza che filtra e accoglie i visitatori per mostrare e vendere i prodotti. Nel cuore della cantina, in una posizione centrale tra gli edifici conservati e quelli di nuova progettazione, un particolare sistema di connessione può essere utilizzato come percorso di visita e di informazione (la strada del vino). Attraverso un lungo e stretto corridoio, sviluppato su tre piani, con due scale agli estremi, è infatti possibile spostarsi rapidamente ovunque e visitare tutte le principali aree produttive, scoprendo e vivendo, allo stesso tempo, il variegato e affascinante mondo dei vini.

Wine is a precious good, born from the earth and strongly linked to the area in which it's grown. So it's the landscape of sweet hills surrounding the winery, terraced with vineyards, that shapes the new, large building, curving and bending the main facade like the wave of the terraces. From original and pure geometries, dynamic volumes are created, clad in panels of rammed earth; the same earth that gave birth and fed the grapes. The earth rises up like huge mineral geodes breaking and splitting to let fresh air and light in. Fissures of coloured glasses, and a precious heart, coated in thousands of little pieces of ruby red mirrors in the same colour of the Amarone wine, impart that under the earth something magical is happening. The new fruits storehouses are on the ground floor, easily accessible through a wide ramp. They are divided into two large spaces that can be used independently for stocking or even for special events. A distinct system of slits, in the lower part of the rammed earth walls, together with some ventilation chimneys, allow to regulate the inflow of and keep them well ventilated. The main storehouse occupies the rest of the ground floor and part of the basement, where it can be easily reached from the backyard. Raising up to towards the sun, the building retracts and opens to the light. First of all through two patios, surrounded by the operational offices, the classrooms and the laboratories; then through a wide terrace, facing the wine-bar and tasting room and the multi-purpose halls. The terrace is a new place for events or simply to relax, drink and admire the landscape. It's a place where the building makes its ecological vocation evident, with the big photovoltaic array and the green roofs. Next to the wine bar, a multimedia library and a temporary exhibition space are located. The existing permanent exhibition hall, dedicated to the grapes drying, has been left in the attic of the entrance building, in its current position. In the same building, representative of the Valpolicella Winery history, are the entrance hall for clients and workers and the management offices. Between that building and the new earth volumes, can be found the new wine-shop and showroom: a full-height, open space that filters and welcomes the visitors to show and sell the products. In the core of the winery, in a central position between the preserved and the newly designed buildings, a particular connection system can be used as a visiting and informative path (the wine route). Through a long and narrow corridor, developed on three floors, with two staircases on the extremes, it's possible to move quickly everywhere and visit all the main productive areas, experiencing, at the same time, the various and fascinating world of wines.
